Sunset Hills Dental Group dentists welcome you to our website! At Sunset Hills Dental Group we’ve been taking care of smiles in South St. Louis County since 1973. We’re a group of experienced dentists and professional staff who provide comprehensive care for both individuals and families. We are proud members of The Greater St. Louis Dental Society, the Missouri Dental Association and the American Dental Association.

Meet Our Doctors

Learn Who We Are

  • Sarah Powell, D.M.D.

    Dr. Sarah Powell was born and raised in Springfield, MO where she attended Glendale High School. She graduated from the University of Missouri - Columbia, with a Bachelors degree in Biology and Business Administration minor, before going on to earn her dental degree from A.T. Still University - Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health. Dr. Powell practiced dentistry with Bell Dental before joining Sunset Hills Dental Group.

  • Matthew M. Barker, D.D.S.

    Dr. Barker was raised in Wildwood, MO and currently lives in Kirkwood. He graduated from St. Louis University High School and then the University of Missouri - Columbia, with a Bachelors degree in Biology. He also earned a Masters degree in Biology from Washington University, before graduating from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry in 2011. Dr. Barker practiced dentistry with Affinia Healthcare before joining Sunset Hills Dental Group in 2015. He is also a member of the MO Valley Dental Study Club.

  • Stephen G. Beck, D.D.S.

    Dr. Stephen Beck grew up in Sappington and graduated from St. Louis University High School. After majoring in History and Biology at the University of Missouri, he earned his dental degree from UMKC. Before joining Sunset Hills Dental Group, Dr. Beck worked for the Public Health Service in Hillsboro, treating under-served communities in Jefferson County. He also served as a contractor for the U.S. military, under the combat readiness program. Dr. Beck is a member of the Missouri Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

  • Julie Hotz-Sudekum, D.D.S.

    Dr. Julie enjoys providing high-quality dental care for adults and children. She grew up in Sunset Hills and graduated from CorJesu Academy. After graduating with a six-year combined BA/DDS degree from The University of Missouri-Kansas City in May 2000, Dr. Julie completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency. She has enjoyed working at Sunset Hills Dental Group since 2001 and is recognized as one of St. Louis's Top Dentists. Dr. Julie and her husband, Peter, have three sons and live in the St. Louis area. She and her team are passionate about serving the Special Needs Community. Watch a video about one of their initiatives here.

  • Daniel A. Kaufmann, D.D.S.

    Dr. Kaufmann grew up in South St. Louis County, where he attended Lindbergh High School. He graduated from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri with degrees in Biology and Chemistry before receiving his dental degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. After practicing on Tesson Ferry for seven years, he joined Sunset Hills Dental Group in 1993.

  • Katerina Kleinova, D.D.S.

    Dr. Kleinova grew up in the Czech Republic. She graduated from both The Ecclesiastic High School in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and The Crossroads High School in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Kleinova earned degrees in General Science, from Santa Monica College, and also in Marine Biology, from UCLA. She received her BS Degree in Dental Science as well as her DDS degree from the University of California, San Francisco. In 2008, she began practicing in the Beverly Hills area of LA. In October 2020, Dr. Kleinova moved to St. Louis and joined Sunset Hills Dental Group.

  • Elena C. Zerega, D.D.S.

    Dr. Zerega grew up in Webster Groves and graduated from Cor Jesu Academy. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with a Spanish minor, from the University of San Francisco. She received her dental degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry. Dr. Zerega is a member of the South County District Dental Society. She has been affiliated with Sunset Hills Dental Group since 2007 and in 2010 became the first female partner in the group.

  • Mark G. Beck, D.D.S.

    Dr. Beck grew up in Affton and graduated from St. Louis University High School. Upon completing a Biology degree at St Louis University, he received his dental degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Greater St. Louis Dental Society and has been on staff at the Community Health in Partnership (CHiPS) free clinic on North Grand for over 30 years. Dr. Beck is also a member of the American College of Dentists, the South County District Dental Society and the Missouri Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He has been with Sunset Hills Dental Group since 1981.

  • Edward C. Hotz, D.D.S.

    Dr. Hotz grew up in Marion, Ohio. After receiving a degree in Biology at St. Louis University, he graduated from Ohio State University Dental School. Dr. Hotz then served two years as a dentist at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois. While at Scott AFB, he did post-graduate rotations in oral surgery, periodontics and prosthodontics. Dr. Hotz has been with Sunset Hills Dental Group since 1977.
